Music Videos
We’re killing two monkeys with one stone here: audio-visual fun for everyone! I stopped watching MTV a long, long time ago, but I doubt I’d come across any videos that I want to see anyway. That’s what YouTube’s for! Isn’t it amazing how many rare and classic vids can be found online? I’ll post my favorites here…
Music Downloads
I was a freshman in college when Napster started to blow up. While the “file sharing” concept seemed wild and crazy back then, it’s commonplace now. There are millions of places you can go online to download music these days. Some people even have dedicated music blogs where they upload an entire discography for some bands. But what I’ve noticed is that it’s mostly uploading and downloading with very little conversation about the actual music!
I would like that to be a little different on my site. Rarely will I just post an album and say, “Here it is!” If I feel compelled to upload music, I’ll usually have something to say about it as well. And I hope you do too! Let me know which songs you’re feeling. Drop me a recommendation if there’s a similar-sounding group that I may not know about. And feel free to make requests!
Disclaimer: All the music posted on my site is for promotional purposes only. If you like something you hear, support the artist by going to one of their shows or buying their music. If you are the artist and would like your music removed from my site, please notify me and they will be removed immediately.
Music Discussion
Do you like discovering new types of music? I know I do. While I always need a heavy dose of real hip-hop, I enjoy innovative music of all kinds. Music is the soul of language and I know that real music resonates with real people. Some internet skeptics will probably say that I should focus my site on one thing (basketball) and nothing else. Well, I’ve witnessed first-hand the benefits of including other topics for discussion.
I used to frequent a basketball message board that was pretty popular back in the day. At first, it was all about reading and responding to other people about your favorite players, teams, etc. But then we started to talk about music and THAT became the main reason I continued visiting the site. Since we had a group of hip-hop heads from all over (NorCal, SoCal, New York, Canada, Australia, etc.), there was never a shortage of new music to discuss.
That message board is where I first heard about Brother Ali and Immortal Technique. I think it’s fair to call both of those guys underground legends because almost everyone I know who’s heard their music tends to instantly take a liking to it (holla at me if you agree with this statement)! I also think that a large portion of their fan base was built around internet discussion and subsequent word of mouth. So let’s talk about some music!
