About See no Evil

Art

In this section, I’m going to talk about things that I find visually interesting. In today’s hectic world, we need stimulating images to make us stop and reflect on life. I hope to display such images here and urge you to send me anything that you’d like to share as well.

Movies

While I’ll mention anticipated films and all-time favorites every now and then, I’ll mostly focus on recent Netflix films. Lately, I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries. I mix in comedies, classics, and foreign films, but for me, there’s nothing quite like finding a well done documentary. I didn’t fully realize the impact that documentaries could have until I was chillin’ over at my friend James’ house with a few of his friends. James was browsing for a movie to watch, so someone asked him about the DVD that was sitting on the coffee table. “Oh, you haven’t seen Baraka? Let’s watch it!”

I was down to watch it of course. I had played it for him a couple weeks earlier and he bought the DVD immediately afterwards. It hit me then, because I figured I had seen Baraka with at least 30 different people BEFORE James. The word Baraka means “blessing” in several different languages. It blows me away every time I put it on and I know that many people I’ve seen it with have felt it’s blessing as well (several people have told me later they bought the DVD either for themselves or their parents). When I think about my friends who have shown it to their friends, who have shown it to their parents and on and on, you can safely say that at least 100 people have seen it who may not have otherwise. That’s pretty impressive when you consider that only 5,773 people have voted for it on IMDB (46.5% gave it a perfect 10)!

And that’s not 100 people consuming something because they saw an advertisement to do so. That’s 100 people hearing about something via word of mouth. In today’s pervading advertising age, the power of word of mouth is more intriguing than ever. In fact, that’s one of the main reasons I created this website.

Incidentally, my favorite scene from Baraka is the Balinese Kecak Monkey Chant.

TV - Video

I like watching all kinds of athletic competitions on TV: from UFC to American Gladiators to Unbeatable Banzuke (just wait). I gotta get my laughs in from The Office and Comedy Central of course, and I watch as much animal/nature High-Def programming as I can handle (I’m a big “Be the Creature” fan).

Some of my All-Time favorite shows include: Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, G.I. Joe, Northern Exposure, South Park, and Oz. However, be very wary about the Tell-Lie-Vision.
