Music To Chill Out To

March 10, 2008

Chill OutCome on in, kick your feet up, and relax…

It’s time to start spreading the music vibes, so here are some of my favorite albums to relax to…

Several of these came from friends like Chappy and Jonny. I’ve listened to, discussed, and shared a lot of music with those guys, and wish to do the same with you.

If you like what you hear, please give a shout out and (if you so desire) share links to more good music.

If you don’t want to “Hear no Evil” and you aren’t feeling the vibes, you can always listen to commercial radio instead.

Now let’s hear some music…

I’m not really sure who DJ Frane is, but he has skills! Prince Paul meets Pink Floyd? Perhaps. Electric Garden of Delights or “Beats to Blaze to Volume 2″ is a psychedelic masterpiece. It flows seamlessly and plays out like an elaborate dream. Highly recommended! Here is DJ Frane on myspace. Thanks for hookin’ this up Jonny!

Black Uhuru - Chill Out

2. Darkness
3. Eye Market
4. Right Stuff

How can you Chill Out properly without this album? Props to Chappy for turning me on to Black Uhuru, because they’ve become possibly my favorite reggae group. This album was released in 1982 and is the total package for me. There is a lot going on musically, but it never feels like one element is overpowering the rest. Favorite tracks include: Chill Out, Eye Market, Mondays, and Emotional Slaughter.

Blockhead - Music by Cavelight

Music by Cavelight1. Hello Popartz
2. You’ve Got Maelstrom
3. Carnivores Unite
4. Sunday Seance
5. A Better Place
6. Road Rage Breakdown
7. Triptych Part 1
8. Triptych Part 2
9. Triptych Part 3
10. Jet Son
11. Music By Cavelight
12. Breathe and Start
13. Bullfight In Ireland
14. Insomniac Olympics

Download the Album

Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite instrumental hip-hop albums (and album titles) of all-time. It’s not ground-breaking, but the melodies that Blockhead crafts create beautiful (often melancholy) mood music that gets better with each listen. Favorite tracks include: Carnivores Unite, A Better Place, Triptych Part 1, Jet Son, and Insomniac Olympics. Here is Blockhead’s myspace page. Don’t sleep!

More albums will be added…

yo thats fucking dope!! thanks for all the albums and thoughts! for all the other folks reading this I’m always on the hunt for rare music. If you’re having trouble finding something you’ve been looking for let me know and I’ll try to hunt it down.

No problemo. For my next update I’ll be adding some more downtempo grooves. Kruder & Dorfmeister and whatnot.

Look out for DJ Frane’s “Beats to Blaze to Vol. 1.” I’d love to hear that. Also let me know if you hear Aesop Rock’s new album, None Shall Pass. I know that Blockhead produced several tracks (they’ve worked together a bunch in the past) and the title song is sweeeet.

daam this Volume 1 is not easy to find…So far I’ve found this..

Frane’s Fantastic Boatride “Beatz to Blaze to Vol 1″

Best known for his unprecedented back-to-back victories in the International Pussy Eating Olympics, DJ Frane likes to unwind from his intensive training schedule during the off-season to make a series of unusual mixed-media concept albums he calls “beats to blaze to.”

“I saw a lot of other pro athletes crossing over into the music world,” says Frane. “Shaquille O’Neal was a big inspiration to me, as well as all those football teams that recorded rap songs about themselves in the 80’s. I figured, I’m already known for setting records in the IPEO, maybe I could try my hand at a different sort of record!” And the results have been astounding. Frane’s intricately woven beat symphonies have gotten O-faces from listeners around the globe.

Still, some worry that Frane’s musical successes mean he will be retiring from the world of professional cunnilingus competition. “Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin,” Frane assures us. “Eating pussy will always be my main focus. I don’t really take the music thing too seriously. If people like it, great! But really it’s just for fun. I wouldn’t do it if I thought it might affect my competitive form.” Frane says he has even incorporated techniques from the playing field into his turntablism. “I do a scratch called Lightning Lips, which sports fans will recognize as one of my signature finishing moves.”

It came out about 9 years ago.

  5. Evil E on March 12th, 2008 9:44 pm

Haha. He’s selling the album on his myspace page for just $10 shipped. Check out this blog of his tho.

His new album comes out next month…on 4/20 of course. Looking forward to that. I don’t mind purchasing it since he seems completely independent. He says he’s also giving away his funk party mix for free at shows. I’d like to know where he’s from, but it just says “Franeland, CA.”

the album came out on Good Vibe who put out a few underground LA act back around 96/97. Medusa and DJ Drez for example..maybe he’s from LA.

Have you ever heard the DJ Drez record that features Medusa, E-Rule, Eminem, Mystic Journeymen, Xzibit and about 10 other MC’s? Jeeves should have the 12″ I’m pretty sure it was in those crates I gave him..

  7. Evil E on March 14th, 2008 3:41 pm

Naww, havent heard it. It looks like the Blockhead album has gotten several downloads. What do you guys think?
