Classic Card – Stephon Marbury

July 28, 2008 by Evil E

In honor of Starbury’s impending doom, let’s take this classic card and give it a quick update.

by Mike Kenny

The front of this card is rather boring, so let’s go straight to the back and then adjust the paragraph for 2008.

Stephon Marbury, 1998-99 Upper Deck

Over the course of the two too (many) seasons which Stephon Marbury has spent with Minnesota New York, the club has taken on the look of one of the league’s premier young teams this. Building upon Regressing from a rookie season which saw him earn NBA All-Rookie First Team honors (Second Team honors that year? Kobe Bryant) and carry the Timberwolves Knicks’ (interns) to their first-ever playoff back-seat-of-a-truck appearance, the second-year rate point shooting guard racked up the NBA’s fourth-best highest assists turnover total in 1997-98 2003-04 and placed his (self-imposed nick)name (Starbury) alongside the game’s history’s premier playmakers franchise killers (such as Isiah Thomas). Marbury’s improved decision making (“Are you getting in or not?”, Dogfighting is a sport too!) and blinding quickness forehead also combined to boost the former Georgia Tech star’s Phoenix Suns player’s scoring output ego enough to declare himself the “best point guard in the NBA.” Rising to the challenge against Western Conference champion Utah expensive basketball sneakers, the 21 31-year old tallied a career-high 38 points and 10 assists on November 24 of started selling his discounted line of Starbury shoes the year before last season. (Dogfighting sneakers sold separately).

Did you know?
After testifying during Isiah Thomas’ and the Knicks’ embarrassing sexual harassment trial — which they ultimately lost — Stephon Marbury showed restrained remorse.

What’s up with Starbury in NY? Like the Clash asked, Should I stay or should I go now? Is he in or out, will he start or sit? Somehow I have a hard time seeing Duhon running a D’antoni team but I can see Starbury in the uptempo game more that Duhon. Thoughts :?:

    Nice.

I enjoy anything that drags Marbury’s name down to the level of his performance. He’s always thought he was the best point guard in the league, and he’s always been followed by a throng of the most intolerable nuthuggers. It’s hilarious, too. He leaves Minnesota, and they actually do better. He says he’s better than Kidd, but they switch teams, and their records flip-flop. Then, once again, he’s replaced by another top point guard (this time Nash) and the Suns become a modest dynasty- no rings- in the the most powerful Western Conferencel in history.

Basketball Gods: we do not understand you, but sometimes you please us.
