The Draft Guide is Now Available!!!

October 4, 2008 by Evil E

It’s finally here. Are you ready to dominate your draft?

To purchase, simply click on the link above contact me.

Once payment is sent, you will receive an email with a direct link to download the Draft Guide. Before you get started, here’s a quick overview of everything that’s included:

~Depth Charts~

Almost every basketball website has Depth Charts, but I prefer to use my own. If you’re not sure what changes each team made over the summer, this is a good place to start. There are plenty of training camp battles going on, so I will update these every week.

~Stat Projections~

Accurate stat projections are essential for fantasy hoops, which is why I’ve spent countless hours researching stats and crunching numbers. My rating system would be worthless if my projections weren’t up to par, so I take them very seriously. I will adjust numbers accordingly during preseason.

~RotoEvil Ratings & Rankings~

Here you get RotoEvil Ratings for the Top 200 players in both 8-cat and 9-cat formats. This document will quickly tell you how strong (or weak) a player is in each category, but you’ll have to make the columns really narrow if you plan on printing this. I rank my players according to RER, so I’m very confident in this system. However, if there’s just a .1 or .2 rating difference between several players, it’s far more important to pick the best fit for your team over simply the highest ranked player. Which brings us to…

~Draft Tracker~

This is a simple tool to use in conjunction with my RotoEvil Ratings during the draft. Simply copy and paste the category values for each player that you pick, and it will automatically calculate your team’s average in each category after each selection. This tool makes it very easy to see what your team’s strengths and weaknesses are as the draft is unfolding.

~Weekly Schedule Grid~

Here is another team management tool for you to utilize after your draft. It features a separate tab for you to paste the schedules of “Your Team,” so you can quickly see which of your players have 3 games and which ones have 4.

~Sleeper Picks & Breakout Candidates~

From “Young Breakout Stars” to “Career Year Candidates” to my exclusive club members, I have chosen several of my favorite breakout players for ‘08-09. While you won’t be able to draft all of them, these articles should make some of your draft day decisions a little bit easier.

~Cheatsheets~

Speaking of making things easier, you’ll also get separate 8-cat and 9-cat cheatsheets to use on Draft Day. This document is easy to print, and features the Top 150 players on page 1, and the next 100 or so players on page 2, separated by what they do best.

~Positional Tiers~

I have created separate Positional Tiers for 8-cat and 9-cat leagues. Both feature 250 players separated into 11-12 groups. This is a MUST-use tool on draft day, because it helps you decide who to draft based on who is still available. Now you’ll be prepared for those inevitable runs on point guards and centers, so there’s no need to panic.

So, is that it??? NO WAY!

Everyone that buys the Draft Guide gets added to my mailing list, which means that all future updates and additions to the guide will be emailed directly to you now. During the preseason, I will update my depth charts, projections & ratings, rankings, cheatsheets, and tiers at least twice a week, so you will always have the latest information no matter when your draft is. I will also add NEW content to the guide every week.

For example, my 1st new addition (to be sent out in a couple of days) will include Player Profiles for every relevant player broken down by position and tiers. I will tell you what I like and/or dislike about each player and why I’m projecting certain stats to improve or decline. I will also point out when a player has considerably more value in 8-cat (OJ Mayo) or 9-cat (Antonio Daniels) leagues, and explain why certain guys are ranked ahead of others. Some other future additions include: who “My Favorite Last Round picks” are and what kind of “Impact: the new Head Coaches” will have, not to mention a few more “Members Only” exclusives.

Wishing you a healthy, exciting, and dominating fantasy hoops season,

Eric Wong AKA RotoEvil

    Hi Evil E,

I just purchased your draft guide, I clicked on the link to download the guide, but the file seems to be empty. Now it won’t allow me to download it anymore because I’ve downloaded twice. Help!? I plan to use the draft guide for my draft this afternoon, hopefully I can get access to the draft guide by 5 pm PDT.

  2. Evil E says:

Hmm you must have tried downloading it just as I was uploading the new version. I just tested it now and it worked fine. I’ll email the guide to you.

  3. SoulWeaver says:

Thanks Evil E, the draft guide looks fantastic. Thanks for the hard work, hopefully this will be a good season. :D

  4. Misterchaos says:

Hi, Evil E, I just made a purchase through PayPal, but it seems that I need to wait for eCheck to be cleared (estimated time is Oct 8) before I can access to your download link.

I find your guide really helpful and plan to use it for my money league, but my draft will be done tomorrow, and I really want to download your stuffs today to review.

I will not cancel the transaction, so can you just send me a link?

I will really appreciate if you can do that for me.

    Thanks

  5. Evil E says:

Sure thing. If anyone else pays by eCheck, just let me know and I’ll send it to you right away so you don’t have to wait for it to clear. Good luck with your drafts guys!

  6. Misterchaos says:

    You are really awesome!

I just received your draft kit and looks great

    Thanks for the guide~

  7. craig says:

    Hey Evil,

Nice work on the draft kit. Top job.

With regarding the draft tracker – you mention to keep an avg. of 5.0 in each category. I was wondering in your experience using your ratings what sort of score should you aim for to most likely “win” the category – or is 5.0 that target?

    Thanks

  8. Evil E says:

Good question craig. This is going to vary depending on how deep your league is, but I would target an average score of 5.2 or higher for your starters (obviously, your last few picks are going to drag down your averages).

In my main leagues, we start 144 players and it seems like an average score of 5.2 is good for about a 3rd place finish in each cat, which is always my goal. If you do this, then you usually finish 1st or 2nd in several cats, 3rd or 4th in several cats, and 5th or 6th in several, with hopefully no “bottom half” finishes. That usually equates to 1st or 2nd place overall.

Thanks for the feedback guys. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at: evile@rotoevil.com

    thanks! it looks fantastic :D

OK , I’ve read and digested and have come away impressed, but on the basis that you can’t please everyone all of the time I’d like to make a comment or two …But where to go without giving out “spoilers” …….How’bout that forum with a password that was mentioned before.???

  11. dave says:

    how much is it?

  12. Evil E says:

    Dave: the guide is $17.99

d2bnz: I have added a new “VIP Lounge” forum for Draft Guide customers only. The password was sent out this morning in today’s 1st UPDATE to the guide.

For those of you having trouble opening the zip folder: Most people have programs to do this already installed, but you may need to download a new program to “unzip” or “extract” the files. I use StuffitExpander for Mac and ExtractNow for Windows XP.

  13. Evil E says:

Today’s update to the guide included Player Profiles for the Top 45-50 points guards and shooting guards. Profiles for the frontcourt players will be sent in the next update.

The profiles range from serious stat talk to my gut feelings to off the wall remarks. Here are just a few examples:

Most people avoid Rafer Alston, and rightfully so, because he’s a career 38.6% FG and 72.5% FT shooter. Still, he’s an excellent source of steals and threes, so I have no problem picking him if he falls far.

Perhaps I think too highly of Baron Davis, but I’m predicting bounceback years for both Cuttino Mobley & Ricky Davis because of Boom-Dizzle. I think Cutty still has some left in the tank, and playing with BD is going to be infinitely better than playing with Brevin Knight, Dan Dickau, Smush Parker, Andre Barrett, and an old alien.

It seems like ages ago, but Kyle Korver once averaged 2.8 threes and 1.3 steals per game. Do you remember that? AI would just drive to the hoop, jump backwards in the air, kick it out to Korver 30 feet away, and then KK would drain it like they were playing NBA Jam. One time I saw him steal an inbounds pass and throw down a nasty tomahawk. It was absurd. I guess some of that magic still exists, but I wouldn’t count on it.

  14. sammy says:

hey, i did echeck too. it says it’ll clear in 3 days, but sooner would be cooler. –THX

  15. anson chan says:

quick question, after reviewing your 8 category and 9 category ratings, it seems you have a basis towards centers.

  16. Evil E says:

sammy – I assume you got the file I sent?

anson – You mean “bias” towards centers? Since I’m relying on numbers, there shouldn’t be a bias per se, altho a lot of centers do tend to rank higher in 9-cat leagues because they don’t get as many turnovers usually. But if you look at my Top 40 players, it’s a pretty good mix of all positions.

I just sent out today’s update that featured stat & ranking revisions for at least 25 players. A few notable centers were downgraded, so you might want to check that out.

The VIP Lounge forum that I created for Draft Guide customers only is really poppin right now. There’s a lot of good discussion going on, people giving and getting advice, etc. I have a feeling that this forum is going to be an invaluable resource to everyone participating, so thanks to everyone who signed up!

  17. anson chan says:

how do i get access to vip lounge

  18. Evil E says:

Did you get today’s update email? It has the password inside. Just go here and register, then use the password.

  21. RT for 3 says:

vip??? i did not receive an email today on the password for the vip lounge or an email update in a few days. i am a purchaser of the guide…RT

  22. Evil E says:

I’ll send you the password now. Perhaps your paypal email is different than your normal address, because I don’t see your trvl email in my address book.

Just so everyone else knows – Whichever address you use to pay with is the one I add to my mailing list. So if you want the updates sent to a different email address, just let me know and I’ll change your email in my address book.

  26. raymund tang says:

hey eric, got the files. they’re great. thanks

  27. Brian D. says:

Hey Evil E, just thought I’d check back in and thank you for your open mindedness towards the comments I made about Antoine Walker on your Memphis post awhile back (full disclosure, he’s my favorite player although I doubt this was a mystery :D ).

I am quite tempted to read more of what you have to say in the members section, but unfortunately times are a bit tight right now. AND the league I’m in isn’t quite the same. For starters it’s H2H not roto, and another key difference: We use Pts, Reb, Asst, Stl, blk, FG%, 3PTM, TO…. so all of those are the same, but the 9th category is FTM, not FT%. It’s like limit hold ‘em poker vs. no limit hold’em…. yes they are both poker, but they are night and day apart. I am most eager to learn who the other 13 breakout candidates are (besides Corey and Lee). A word on Corey first: He was a star player for me last year, but again we use FTM (although FT% at 80% and a high number of attempts seems like a good deal no matter what). And with our format, I think after Lebron and Kobe Dwight Howard is the 3rd best player. I play on yahoo and one of the things that throws everyone off is that people don’t stray too far from the default rankings. Dwight I think is 38th on there right now because of his roughly 6 for 11 foul shooting and high turnovers… but hey for our league, who cares if he bricks 5 a game, he’s making 6 which is all that matters!

Ok I’m rambling, but a few thoughts here real quick: Do you talk about Ramon Sessions much in the members section? I have my misgivings about this guy. If he plays too much he could average 10 turnovers per game! And also, he’s a big unknown. Yes he was fantastic in 17 games, but now he has a new coach and will battle with Luke Ridnour for minutes. Also T.J. Ford as a 6th tier pg? It’s true he’s injury prone, but this time last year I jumped at jamaal tinsley in my draft and he definitely did not disappoint those first 2 months (after that it was a bust obviously). If T.J. stays healthy then look out, he will thrive in Obie’s system. I’ll probably have more to say later, I know you probably can’t talk too much about specifics but I figured I’d vent a little bit about what I’m thinking before our big draft this Sunday. Thank you for running this fine public service! (I’d tell people about it and further expand your business but I don’t want to give away part of my competitive advantage 8)

  28. john bender says:

Purchased the guide, but it wants my check to clear (sent through Jenny Bender Paypal). Can you email the guide to this address?
