Join RotoEvil’s new Mock GM league!

Thanks to PASPN.net, we now have our own Mock GM league that comes very close to simulating the real thing. Make sure you signup right away, because the league starts on July 6th!

Are you ready to take fantasy basketball to the next level? Do you feel that you’d be a successful NBA General Manager? If so, then look no further.
For the upcoming season, PASPN.net has given RotoEvil.com its own league, and signups have already started. Since there are crucial offseason decisions to be made, it’s important that we kick things off immediately. So just follow the instructions below to register and join the league, and then on July 6th, you will become GM of an NBA franchise of your choice.
Overview
There will be 30 General Manager spots available: one for each NBA franchise. Since this is a new league, we will start by taking over each team’s existing contracts. After that, it’s up to you to re-tool your team via trades, draft picks, and free agent signings to form the best team that you can. Since PASPN leagues are governed by the rules of the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA), the Mock GM game mixes fantasy basketball playing with the realities of the business of the NBA.
Once the NBA regular season begins, we will compete in an 18-week Head-to-Head season, where each team has a new opponent every week. You start 8 players (PG, SG, SF, PF, C, UTIL, UTIL, UTIL), and whoever scores more fantasy points wins the matchup. The scoring system is based on NBA.com’s Efficiency rating: ((PTS + TRB + AST + STL + BLK) – ((FGA – FGM) + (FTA – FTM) + TOV )). The top 16 teams qualify for the Playoffs, which take place during the final 4 weeks of the regular season.
Trading during the regular season is possible, but much like the regular NBA, the offseason is when the majority of moves are made. Of course, this is also where your General Manager skills will be tested. But if you don’t want to be a GM, there’s still another way to play. PASPN.net also gives you the option of being an “Agent,” where you create a sports agency, sign clients, and work with the GMs to negotiate bigger contracts for your clients. Agents also compete against each other to see whose clients are accumulating the most fantasy points, so there’s some skill and competition involved in that aspect as well. However, you can only be an Agent OR a General Manager, not both.

2. Get Ready for our NBA Rookie Draft
(Once the league is set, we will have our rookie draft. For our 1st year, we are using the exact same order as the actual draft. For example, the GM of the Clippers will have the #1 pick, and he can select Blake Griffin or any other player. In future seasons, there will be a draft lottery for the teams that don’t make the playoffs.)
3. Start Thinking of Trades and Free Agent Contracts
(Once the league is underway, GMs will be allowed to make trades and sign new players. For free agency, GMs will submit contracts within a certain time period and either that player’s agent or a computer will select the best offer.)

Two questions though, on the 6th when we pick our teams will what we get be completely updated? and, what is the penalty for going over the salary cap (aside from a luxury tax)?
Additionally (and WAY in advance) if anyone wants to start up a Yahoo league (keeper or non), in addition I would be completely down to play with such seasoned fantasy minds.
Not just lux tax too now that I reread my post but also buyouts, etcs, and general finances, I guess I will have to check out the site some more.

I was looking at the available teams list thing and looked at the current Rosters and noticed that Carter was still on New Jersey’s roster.
Just wondering, do the Nets get Carter cleared off their roster and get Courtney Lee, since they traded for Carter before the draft. Or in this simulation, is Carter still on New Jersey’s roster since he was on their current roster at the very end of the 08′ season?

For the 9 people that do not get GM spots they can switch and become agents or wait til a GM resigns in this league, or we can start another Rotoevil.com Leauge 2!
Also the quesiton about VInce still being on the Nets. Whatever the Nets or any team did this offseason in the real NBA does not apply to our league and this roster version. You get to control the realities of the NBA in this league which make it so cool. In September we will release another roster version for people to play with as well

Well, I just got to a computer after spending most of the day on the road. It’s only 3 1/2 hours after the starting time, but all 30 GM spots are already filled. I didn’t expect that to happen.
Not sure what to do now…

E…..I really believe that you should be in this league and I’d be prepared for you to take my spot …..’white boys team’ , and I’ll be an agent.
If you want to start a second league for us, I’ll give up my spot in the first league. I got the mavericks. I really wanted the sixers, but was unavailable until like 3 hours after the start, Dallas was actually the last team left when I picked them.

OK guys. Due to popular demand, a 2nd league has been added. If you don’t like the team you got in League #1, then feel free to leave League 1 and join League 2 instead.
One difference for League 2 is that once you join, you’ll be able to select your team. So if you act quickly, you should be able to get one of your top choices.
Of course, we don’t want a bunch of you switching over, so only leave League 1 if you really don’t like your team. If a spot opens up for me in #1, then I’ll join that one, but I doubt I’ll be doing both leagues.

this would be like my 5th job. I would have wanted the Thunder tho. That’s the squad. Presti already laid the foundation perfectly.
Only 3 teams in the 2nd league so far, I wonder how many people read down into the comments and found out about it.

Meanwhile, I was foolishly waiting for someone to drop out of league #1 rather than choosing a team for league #2. The Clippers and Thunder have already been taken, and they were 2 of my top choices.

Hey E, I signed up for the second league and I am willing to drop from the first so you can have a spot. I am the GM on the Mavs in league 1. Should I just click resign? what if someone else jumps in the spot?

Hopefully League #2 starts to fill up and then I’ll join before all the good teams are taken.
It sucks that I didn’t get a spot in League #1, but maybe I’ll just wait to see what happens with that. If there’s a GM in league 1 who is completely inactive and the majority of you want to kick him out, let me know, and then I can come in as his replacement. Does that work?

take my place. I got memphis. Cap room, and expiring contracts. To me it is criminal that you aren’t in the league you helped form. Plus everyone else wanteed to play with you (the legend). Lets schedule a time where I can leave as GM and you can take over.

When I was initially contacted by PASPN, I was told that: “The beauty of Mock GM is as a league owner, you do not have to put forth time to be a commissioner as the league manages itself… We can oversee the league on our end as well.”
After joining a league and seeing first-hand how it operates, I have to disagree with the previous statement. The site does not seem to be very user-friendly, the preset draft was a joke, and there has simply been too much confusion thus far.
As a fantasy commish, your main job is to make sure everything goes smoothly and to quickly clear up any problems or confusion that arise. He should also notify everyone of all the important dates and transactions. In this regard, Mock GM has a lot of room for improvement.
It’s hard to place much blame on PASPN, because it is still a relatively new site and they will hopefully continue to improve the functionality and appearance of their leagues. When that happens, I will join another one, but for now, I’m out of this league.
My apologies if you signed up because you wanted to play against me. You’ll get another chance. It looks like some of you are really enjoying it, so have some fun out there…
