Western Conference Coaches & GMs

What were today’s head coaches and general managers doing 20 years ago?

In recent years, many former NBA players have ascended the ranks to “Head Coach” and “General Manager” status, or “Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations” in some cases.

Here is the follow-up to my Eastern Conference coaches & GMs post. All of these cards are either ‘89-90 or ‘90-91 Hoops, meaning all of the photos are from 18-20 years ago…

Marc Iavaroni – Grizzlies coach

Byron Scott – Hornets coach

Jerry Sloan – Jazz coach

Reggie Theus – Kings coach

Phil Jackson – Lakers coach

Rick Adelman – Rockets coach

Steve Kerr – Suns GM

Terry Porter – Suns coach

Kevin McHale – Timberwolves GM

Randy Wittman – Timberwolves coach

Nate McMillan – Trail Blazers coach

Chris Mullin – Warriors GM

Don Nelson – Warriors coach

No comments on the Byron Scott interview w/ Chick Hearn? I really like how he can pinpoint the instance where he gained confidence and started to take his game to the next level.

I also think that he and Chris Paul have perhaps the best coach/ player relationship in the NBA, so it’s no surprise to see their success.

Wow, Don Nelson looked a lot skinnier twenty years ago, and Jerry Sloan’s hair wasn’t white.
    LOL, time keeps on rolling.

  3. Brian D. says:

Lolz Jerry Sloan has been head coach of the Jazz since the Nixon administration (jay kay that’s probably not true but I’m too lazy to look it up).
